Gaya Street Christmas 2011

It was raining on the last day of Christmas celebration at Gaya Street, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (15 Dec 2011).  Despite the rain, atmosphere of Christmas was still great.

Thanks Carolers for lifting the Christmas atmosphere!
Nativity Hut with fake snow.

Light decoration, a great idea for a night event. Turning ordinary street to a wonderful street for the KK folks and the photographers. Every Sunday morning this place be utilized for a Sunday Market and sadly, these row of buildings will look so dull during daytime.  Are the taxpayers money will be wasted if the government allocate some money to enhance the view of this street? Observe the photo below. Taken from other website.

Above all, thanks for the creativity of the organizer (decoration, programs, Christmas Carols etc.). Looking forward for 2012 Christmas Celebration.

Logopus kogutanis

Today is the last working day of my friend who work in Singapore.  He and the other Sabahans has not resigned but their work permit is not being renewed.  According to him, the Sabahans are facing the consequences of their bad drunk habits that create so much problems to the employer.

I feel so sorry for my friend for being affected by the tarnished Sabahan's reputation to the Singaporean employer because he is not a drunker (or 'logop' in our local dialect).  He has a daughter to be fed.

A week before, he has shared his frustration about the logop Sabahans specifically his colleagues.  He has been belittled by the logops when he told them that he never get drunk nor having tasted a drop of alcoholic drink. For the logop's mentality, Sabahan must be a logop otherwise he/she is not a pure Sabahan.

I have another friend who works in Sabah.  He told me that last month two of his colleagues were fired for the same reason. Logop.  It was the logop's habit not turning up for work a day after the pay day and many times on Monday, they came to work with intoxication sign (or kogutan in our local dialect).

There are still many cases related with the impact of drunkenness in our society but this logop mentality is still being widely accepted, practiced and embraced.  For the extremist, they proudly declare that it is a tradition.

Fresh Fish in KK

If you're looking for other options to get fresh fish in KK aside from the existing fish market, you can try to go to Teluk Likas, Kota Kinabalu.  The fishermen usually start selling their catch at 6.00am until 9.00am.  The price is acceptable, around RM 3 to RM 4 for 10 fishes with average size (approximately L : 6-7 inch, W: 1 1/2 inch).  However the price for prawn maybe quite escalating this month (April), RM 15 per kg and this may due to the rainy season.
